Road to CA....

Left the house yesterday at 6:15 am and returned 12 hrs later...
Ontario convention center had a HUGE quilt show going on...which many of you had heard of.
I took a class, which I have never done before... From the famous Edyta Sytar..
Oh man!!!! Was she ever wonderful!!! I would suggest that everyone take a class from her if they have an opportunity. She is just an amazing person!
Left class with a finished project. A table runner

The way she does her paper foundation is amazing and addictive... I'm gonna make one of her quilts now. Just wait!!! It's gonna be so cool!
We had a 2 hr lunch... Did a little shopping. We inhaled a sandwich and then did some more shopping.
After class was over, we went back to shopping. Only had like 2 hrs left. We went so fast... I feel like I really didn't get to see everything. There were 2 buildings packed with vendors and quilts mixed in.. Then an additional tent of vendors on top of that.
I had a list of things to get... I only crossed 1 thing off but came home with a bag full of stuff I just couldn't live without.
I need to go back today to get the stuff on my list. :)

2 more done...

Finished and framed a little Christmas stitchery....

And then I had a bare table... So I whipped up a little table topper.

Then I changed tables... Can't make up my mind... May have to make another one.

Sunday...fun day...

Dragged Mark out to the Long beach flea market today..
Found a couple of treasures...
This old architectural piece... It's old! Kinda hard to see... I waited till it was night time to take a picture, so you see all the shadows to go with. Metal design in the middle with wood all around outside.

Then.... I FINALLY found a old sewing cabinet drawer. Not the one I have seen in the past or had my heart set on, but it will do. I can say ...I have one now... I just LOVE the smell of the old wood every time you open the drawers.

Michele... You have the one I really want!! I can drool over yours every time you post a picture!

Finale...

Well... I put it in the washer....cold water and gentle cycle...Tablespoon of "Orvis ", 6 color catchers and crossed my fingers!
When it was done, I ran upstairs and opened it up... Phew! Look at the color catchers!!

Looked ok... One corner was kinda pink. I knew if I dried it it would be permanent...so I threw it back in, added 5 more color catchers...another scoop of Orvis and...

Look at the color catchers again! Wow!! Looked good... Put it in the drier..

But..look.... No bleeding... And all the pink stripes are gone! I just love when it's all crinkly! My favorite part!

I even made a label...

Part II

Well... I had no intentions of continuing with this quilt but... It was staring at me when I went into the sewing room this morning.
Soo... I took the back, taped it down.. Tried to lay the batting and top on... Tape does not hold, just so you know... I have seen all these pictures of people taping the backs down while putting the batting and top on... Sorry peoples... DOES not work!
So.... After staring at a while again, I gave up. Thought I would just remove all the chalk markings, fold it up and put it in the next pile.
Well..... This chalk that supposedly comes off with water!? I know it rubs off, that's for sure... Well... It didn't come off like the package says.
Soo....stared at it a while again with the spray bottle in my hand... Ummm... One little corner of the red fabric starting bleeding thru. CRAP!
Thought and thought some more... Trash can was looking pretty good about now. Wouldn't be the first or the last time I had thrown a quilt/quilt top away, or given it to goodwill.
So... What the ****. I took it upstairs... Loaded it on the rack... Wound 4 bobbins and let her rip... If I am going to throw it away... I'm gonna see if it is really gone turn pink on me when I wash it!
Listened to the machine moaning and groaning, creaking all the way... 5 hours later AGAIN.... She was done... Thread only broke 3x's... But I noticed there is more than a handful of skipped stitches. What's all that about?? I put a new needle in, new thread... Superior thread... Invested in some GOOD thread at the last quilt show... And it still acts up... Bout ready to get rid of this machine...
Took it off, went down stairs, put the binding on... (Cut it all last night.. )I did the sew on binding... LOVE that binding! An hour later... It's finished.
Here it is now..

Can you see all the pink lines??? Let's see if they wash out!

As of 4:10, Wednesday it's in the washer.... I'll let you know tomm how it turned out!

Gadget kinda day...

Yep... I pulled em all out for this project...
Finished my red & white quilt... Marked the WHOLE thing for quilting because I thought I would be smart and quilt it on the bernina.... Put my walking foot on the machine...Hmmm. What the heck was I thinking. I probably could have done/finished it, if...... The Fabric would not have gathered in the back. No way of fixing it either. I even laid the whole thing out and spray basted it. Grrrr.. No way to fix it except.. Yep.. You guessed it... Ripped the WHOLE thing out... I was, oh probably 80% done.. Well, I was 5 hrs into stitching..

Have you ever seen one of these rippers... Well... It's wonderful! Battery operated seam ripper... Bought it at Road to California one year..Sewed 5 hrs... Ripped it all out in 1 ! And I didn't tear the fabric once!
Then.. This little guy below...He's a seam ripper too. Except he has a rubber butt! You just rub his rear end along all those loose threads and wa-lah!! They all scooch to the the side.. Love it!

Soo.... It's going on the other machine someday... That machine has been acting up the last couple of times I used it, so we'll see. There are 3 others waiting in line to get quilted too. I may send them out... (Mark will never know)
